21世纪是科技创新的时代，为了激发青少年的STS（科学、技术、社会）精神，推动STEAM（科学、技术、工程、人文、数学）教育，促使青少年参与可持续发展行动，香港青少年科学院、美国哥伦比亚大学拉蒙特-多尔蒂地球观测研究所携手，为青少年、科学教育工作者以及科学传播者搭建国际交流平台，聚焦以数码影像进行青少年科学教育和科学传播的新媒体形式，共同举办2022香港-纽约国际青少年科学影像大赛。
